Norwood Gracious In Defeat

Oliver Norwood has given his own personal verdict on Saturdays game against Watford which saw the terriers lose their first home game of the season. The midfielder netted Towns first goal of the game from a free-kick that Watfords goalkeeper Almunia could only push into his own goal. The game came to a dramatic conclusion as Watford ensured all three points were theirs when Foresteri tumbled to the ground in the last five minutes to be awarded a somewhat harsh penalty by the officials. The penalty was tucked away and Watford deserved the victory but Norwood wasn't happy with how easy the visitors went to ground;

"I thought at the time Wardy caught him. He made it look like he'd been shot, but I can't argue with the decision. It's the Italian style. They try to buy free-kicks. Overall I don't think we've any complaints. We didn't hit the standards that we've set over the last six games. Watford deserved their win to be fair."

Norwood was happy with the free-kick that got his name on the score sheet and admitted that testing Almunia was something the team had talked about before the game;

"I said to Adam Clayton before I hit it that I was thinking of having a go and he said just make sure you get it on target. We both agreed that if you work their keeper then he could end up putting the ball into his own net, like we've seen him do before. We talked before the game about getting the free-kicks and corners right on top of him because he's a habit of flapping at stuff."

"He did so again and I was delighted it went in. But from there we just didn't kick on. To be honest, we were poor and we've got to hold our hands up to that."

The midfielder admits that the whole teams performance just wasn't good enough and that if they continue to play like that then they will start slipping down the league table;

"We can't play like that every week, otherwise we'll be down near the bottom of the table. Hopefully, we've got a chance of playing in the Premier League next season if we keep to the standards we set in the first six games. That's why we're all disappointed. We know we let ourselves down on Saturday. The good thing is we have another game tomorrow. Hopefully we can make amends."
