Gerrard Urged To Take His Chance

After a stunning display on Monday night against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road, Anthony Gerrard is all set to make his home starting debut at The John Smiths Stadium when Huddersfield Town clash with Watford on Saturday. Simon Grayson has voiced his opinions on the defender and has let him know what he needs to do in order to become a regular starter in the terriers side;

"Anthony Gerrard has shown what he is capable of doing. He is composed in possession of the ball and very strong in the air, and he formed a good partnership with Peter Clarke the other night in what was a very pleasing performance from all the team."

"That's why I brought Anthony to the club, because he is a leader and an experienced type who just wanted to play games. It's great for him to settle into the team so quickly and, with Joel serving his suspension, there is an opportunity for him. That's what players have to do. When they get the opportunity they have to grasp it and that's what Anthony has done."

The manager also gave a strong indication that regardless of who he may bring to the club, they will not be immediately into the starting XI due to the way his squad are currently playing;

"As I've already said, anyone coming into the club at this stage probably wouldn't get into the team because of what the starting XI are doing. It makes it easy for a manager when you are winning because the players want to play. They would be playing five days a week, or seven days a week if they were given the choice, because they know they are playing well and they are enjoying themselves."
