Grayson Can't Hide Terriers Flaws

Grayson look on as Calum Woods re-emerges from the snow

Simon Grayson has given his assessment on his sides 4-0 defeat away at Watford which has taken the terriers to twelve games without a win in the Championship. Grayson could only watch as his side went one nil down just before half time through a dubious penalty decision but were totally outclassed in the second half as they fell to pieces. A lack of desire, heart and determination was evident throughout the team as they suffered another heavy defeat without netting once. 

Grayson spoke to the official website after the game;

"We gave in too easily today. I think we did ok in the first half and we used the ball well. The goal just on half time has affected us and it shouldn’t do. It wasn’t a penalty though; Calum Woods won the ball and the challenge was also outside of the box. Watford had their tails up from there, but we didn’t get near them. We didn’t have enough leaders out there. At 2-0 we still might have had an opportunity, but we just weren’t good enough." 

"It is hugely disappointing for everyone involved with the football club and most importantly the fans that have travelled all this way."

"The players are making individual errors; their second goal is a good example of that. It was too easy for them to cross the ball in to the box; we didn’t work hard enough to shut the Watford player down. Also, for the third goal, the two defenders have made bad errors which allowed their striker through on goal."

"When the second and third goals went in we started feeling sorry for ourselves. Teams are ruthless in the Championship and if you give them half a yard they will stamp all over you. The only thing that will get us out of our current predicament is hard work. If that means doing double training sessions and for some players to lose their shirt, then we will have to do that. If you don’t work harder than the opposition then you will get punished. We aren’t covering the distances with any sort of desire."

Simon Grayson made a suprising change to his team by pushing Jack Hunt into the right wing position today and slotting Calum Woods in at right back;

"I thought he did OK. He looked comfortable in the first half. We did it because we thought he would give us an extra dimension going forward and also because Calum Woods has done well while waiting for an opportunity.”

Winger Danny Ward did not feature in the team selection today and Grayson explained that Danny had suffered quite a serious injury in training throughout the week whereas Lynch was not named due to his hamstring;

"Joel Lynch is making progress with his hamstring, but whether he will be fit for the Leicester game is still questionable. On his return from injury Danny Ward caught his foot in training and after going for an x-ray it revealed that he has fractured metatarsal, which is going to rule him out for six to eight weeks."
