Danns Looking To Push The Terriers Up The Table

Danns has joined the terriers on loan until the
end of the current 12/13 season
Neil Danns has assured Huddersfield Town fans that the club can still compete for a play-off spot this season despite a poor run of form which has seen them slip down the Championship league table. The terriers have recently gone ten games without a win before battling hard to defeat Charlton by one goal to nil and Danns knows exactly what is needed in this league to pick up vital points.

Match Report: Huddersfield Town 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Huddersfield Town faced one of the toughest tests they have encountered in The Championship this season when Wolverhampton Wanderers came to The John Smiths Stadium. The visitors were sitting pretty in third place and were coming to take on the terriers in very good form with five wins out of the last six games but Grayson's men were revitalized after picking up all three points before the international break against a very tough Birmingham City side at St Andrews.

Town's Team; Smithies, Woods, Gerrard, Clarke, Hunt, Ward, Norwood, Southern, Clayton, Vaughan, Beckford

Town's Bench; Bennett, Dixon, Novak, Lynch, Scannell, Arfield, Lee

Huddersfield started the game positively with sleek passing and strong defending and with just eleven minutes on the clock, the terriers forced Wolves into conceding their first goal in their last three away games. Jack Hunt was the provider for one of the best goals ever to be scored at The John Smiths Stadium as his inch perfect cross was met superbly by the head of James Vaughan who sent the ball flying across the face of goal and into the back of the net.

Vaughan's goal for the terriers is his third since joining
on season long loan from Norwich
The midfield of Huddersfield were working hard as per usual and Clayton was looking on the money when he nodded the ball down into Vaughan's feet who crossed to the back post, just inches away from Beckford who could well of doubled the terriers lead if he had connected with he cross. Wolves were not looking a bad team but Huddersfield were dominating the pace of the game. However, the visitors got their first real chance of the game through a Bakary Sako free-kick which went just inches over the bar of Alex Smithies goal.

Jack Hunt had already provided an assist and his confidence was sky high as he ran once again at the Wolves defence before firing an effort just wide of the mark. Moments later Adam Clayton linked up with former Leeds United team mate Jermaine Beckford to give the terriers an unlikely two goal lead. Clayton whipped in a superb delivery from the right wing for Beckford to scissor kick into the back of the net in extraordinary fashion. The on loan striker put his name into hat for goal of the month...if not the season.

Beckford celebrates after doubling the terriers lead
with a stunning finish.
Wolves looked a beaten side after the second goal had gone in but they were nearly given a lifeline as Woods made a mistake which allowed Sako in at goal but he could only curl his effort wide of Smithies goal to the annoyance of the visiting fans. Chances continued to come for the home side and Town could of been at least four or five up before half time with both Vaughan & Beckford having great chances to take the game beyond Wolves but it wasn't meant to be for the strikers.

Half Time: Huddersfield Town 2-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Simon Grayson's team started the second half as they had finished the first and within a minute Beckford was causing Wolves problems yet again. Roger Johnson luckily recovered well as the striker closed down on the visitors goal after a superb pass from Oliver Norwood had set Beckford free. Ten minutes later, Wolves got their first chance on goal in the second half as new signing Jermaine Pennant crossed to the back post where Kevin Doyle met the ball with his head. The effort was goal bound but Huddersfield skipper Peter Clarke was on his top form and blocked the effort to keep his sides two goal lead.

With just over an hour on the clock the visitors managed to get themselves back into the game as Sylvan Ebanks-Blake stabbed home a tame shot only for it to sneak past Smithies off the post. The shot had also received a heavy deflection off Peter Clarke which ultimately gave the goalkeeper no chance in denying Wolves their away goal.

Wolves were playing the much better football now of the two teams and were buoyed after getting themselves back into the game from an unlikely goal scoring chance. Sako was the main problem for the terriers as he continued to skip away from his markers to push the visitors forward. Sako was the creator of Wolves' first goal and he went close to getting his name on the score sheet but his shot whistled inches past the post. The game was ticking ever so slowly now for the home side who looked tired after such a gut busting first half effort and they were starting to hang on against a never ending onslaught of Wolves attacks.

In the 79th minute Wolves had a corner which was met by the head of David Edwards who beat his marker but could only send his header smashing into the upright. Smithies was well beaten by the effort and it looked almost certain that Town were going to give away their two goal lead but they hold strong in the final minutes to get their home form back to winning ways.

Beckford Ready To Work Hard

Jermaine Beckford has spoken for the first time since his arrival from Leicester City on loan last night. The striker has fallen out of favour at the Foxes since the arrival of Pearson and now has a chance to show what he is worth at Huddersfield Town. Under Simon Grayson and his backroom staff, Beckford was one of the most prolific goalscorers in English football but has since has failed to impress at Leicester City.

A brief spell at Everton in the Premiership has given the striker some much needed experience of how things are in the top leagues and now Beckford is ready to fight for his place and most importantly score goals for Huddersfield Town;

"I'm delighted we've got the deal over the line and now I'm looking forward to actually getting out there and showing everyone what I'm about and what I can do. I just want to be playing games, but it is just one of those unfortunate situations where I was pushed down the pecking order. That is football."

"I hope I can showcase what I can do here and get a few goals to help maintain this amazing run Huddersfield Town has been on. Obviously I've worked with the Manager, 'Snods' and 'Dusty' before and when I heard they were interested in bringing me in and giving me a chance to play it was almost a no-brainer. We have such a good relationship and I know exactly what type of football they like to play, which suits me."

"The technical staff wants me to do what I do; come in, enjoy the games and get some goals. That's what I'm looking forward to doing. I've played with a few of the lads here too and I've probably played against all of them, so we all kind of know each other one way or another. I'm looking forward to getting in with them and fighting in their corner."

With both strikers at Huddersfield Town on great form, Beckford understands that he may have to wait a while before being given a chance at showing the fans what he can do;

"I'm not here to try and push anyone out or ruffle any feathers, I'm here to dig deep, work hard and hopefully get a few goals and a few assists to get the other boys on the score-sheet. It's been an amazing run the Club has been on and they've probably exceeded expectations and I hope it continues."

"I'm excited about the Watford game. My last game was on 1 September and I'm excited to say the least! If I'm involved then brilliant, but I understand football and I'm not expecting to come in and take anyone's spot, like I said. I'm just happy to be given this chance."

Beckford Signs For Terriers On Loan!!

We have finally got him. Jermaine Beckford was all but signed on transfer deadline day for Huddersfield Town but with just five minutes to go, Leicester City pulled a plug on the deal to the annoyance of many. However, Grayson has never given up the chase and today he has got his man, Beckford, on an emergency 93 day loan from the Foxes. The prolific striker is available for the game tomorrow against Watford and Grayson is delighted with his latest capture;

"Jermaine is a good footballer and he adds something different to the squad. The players we have at the squad all have different qualities and Jermaine is a natural goalscorer, his record speaks for itself. Having that variation in the squad is perfect for me as Manager as it allows the team to adapt to different situations. I want competition for places and the addition of Jermaine gives us strength in depth, hopefully he can help us build on the successful start we have made to this season."

"Everyone at the Club has had a tough time trying to get this deal over the line; not just on August transfer deadline day, but also in the last 24 hours. Jermaine comes straight into the squad for Saturday's game against Watford."

We here at HTFC Hub are absolutely buzzing with Beckford signing on loan but what's your opinion? Comment below.

Grayson Will Be Patient Over Beckford

Simon Grayson has not given up his chase to sign out of form Leicester City striker Jermaine Beckford regardless of if the players agent has declared he is staying with the foxes. Grayson has been keen on the ex-Leeds United goalscorer for a while now but he was extremely disappointed for the plug to be pulled on a loan deal which would of secured the strikers name for at least a season at the terriers.

However, Beckford knows he is wanted and with him still not being played in the starting XI at Leicester City, Grayson firmly believes he has a chance of re-sparking another loan deal;

"I think the Beckford deal will probably be off for a while, I'm disappointed we couldn't conclude that on deadline day but we will see what's available. I'm pleased with the options I've got, but Jermaine's deal would have been the icing on the cake. I could go and sign another striker tomorrow but I don't think the ones that are available are any better than what we've got."

"I think it's been put on the back burner from Leicester's point of view, I think they're going to keep him for a while but you never know in football, we thought we'd done a deal but things can change quickly."

Beckford Not Joining Terriers

Breaking news has been announced on Twitter regarding Jermaine Beckfords future. The out of favour striker at Leicester City was minutes away from signing for Huddersfield Town under ex-manager Simon Grayson before the foxes pulled out in the transfer window & today his agent has stated that he will not be going anywhere now.

Simon Grayson was keen to bring Beckford to the terriers on a season long loan but seemed happy enough to settle for an emergency 93 day loan with the opening of the loan window but it seems like he will miss out on his main target completely now.

Beckfords agent, Nick Rubery, answered a question regarding his player on the social networking site moments ago;

"@Kingpowers: @nickrubery1 have #lcfc stopped the Beckford move to Huddersfield completely now?" Yes. J won't be going anywhere now.

So there you go Town fans. Beckford will not be joining Huddersfield Town but remaining at Leicester City.

Town Hoping To Get The Best Out Of Possible Loan Deals

Huddersfield Town may have received big money through the transfer of Jordan Rhodes to Blackburn Rovers but the terriers manager, Simon Grayson, stated that possible loans will only be done if the club can get the best deal. Town may only sign a player on an emergency loan which is just 93 days so it is crucial that the club get the dates correct before finalising any loan deals to bring players into the club;

"You are limited to 93 days, so even if we did do something before the weekend there would be no point wasting a few days. Getting the best out of the loan is what you are trying to do, working out the dates which suit everyone. There will be players available – maybe from Premiership clubs – who will give us options if necessary and if we are prepared to go down that avenue."

Grayson has apparently got his eyes on Simon Church of Reading as well as Jermaine Beckford who is currently playing for Leicester City but it is likely that only one of these will join the club to act as a somewhat replacement for Jordan Rhodes.

Nigel Clibbens On Deadline Day Collapse Of Beckford Loan

Huddersfield Town strengthened their squad on the final day of the transfer window on Friday with the addition of Adam Hammill but the board at the terriers were left unhappy with the last moment collapse on a loan deal which would of seen Jermaine Beckford join from Leicester City. The highly rated striker has found himself having to sit regularly on the bench at Leicester & reports suggested that he had agreed a deal with Town to join them on loan for the rest of the season.

The loan deal was indeed true and both clubs had met an agreement but with just five minutes of transfer deadline day left, Leicester pulled out due to unknown reasons. Nigel Clibbens gave his thoughts & opinions about the whole Beckford situation;

"We appreciate we've got to replace the goals and we've tried to do that, but we won't rush to bring somebody in just because somebody has gone out. It's important we use the money from Jordan's sale wisely because we are not bereft of talent. We have got a lot of talent in the squad, Simon Grayson is quite comfortable with that, and we will keep on going."

"The loan window is an option for us and we'll see what it brings. I'm sure there will be lots of movement on deals which didn't quite happen, both for us and for other clubs, and anything can happen. We will just keep on looking to strengthen our squad all over the pitch. We will simply continue to do the things which have stood us in good stead throughout Dean Hoyle's chairmanship. That won't change, our plans haven't changed and we will keep sticking to what we know we are good at."

Clibbens then gave his answer to how the Beckford loan deal had come about & how things had happened on Friday;

"We spent a lot of last Thursday and all of Friday negotiating with Leicester and we moved close to a deal, agreeing terms for a season-long loan. Jermaine travelled to Huddersfield to sign the paperwork and once it got past 10pm we started filling it in. We signed, Jermaine signed and then Leicester decided they didn't want to do the deal, so we didn't get it completed."

"That's part and parcel of football and business and it can be frustrating. Maybe it will come back in the loan window, I don't know at this stage. We got very close and we would have been glad to have Jermaine here, but the squad we have got we are quite comfortable with."

Clibbens reiterated that everyone understands that Huddersfield have got money to spend due to Rhodes' £8m departure but the club will not be bullied into paying over the odds for any player;

"It might change the emphasis for other clubs because they think we have funds available to do the deals. They might feel they can be stronger in demanding what they want, but it's for us to remain strong and stick to paying what we think is fair value. It's all under our control from that point of view. If someone holds us to ransom we don't have to agree to their terms. It is a colossal amount of money for Jordan because he is a special talent, but when he says he wants to go and we are offered that amount of money, there's only one outcome really."

"It is as Dean said, if Jordan had wanted to stay he would have turned down the cash, so it shows how focused we are not on short-term financial gain but on the long-term picture. Simon sets his teams up as teams, for the collective effort, and anyone who has watched Jordan will know that a huge proportion of his goals came from the collective effort."
