Hammill; "That’s To Say Thanks"

Hammill celebrates his stoppage time goal at the weekend
Adam Hammill has come out and thanked both the Huddersfield Town fans and club for his time at the terriers and for supporting him through one of his toughest times as a professional footballer. Adam Hammill's loan with Huddersfield has come to an end today and he will return to Wolves where his future remains a huge uncertainty. However, Hammill finished his loan spell in style by securing a last minute point with a stunning solo effort against Birmingham City at the weekend.

Anxiety Affecting Huddersfield Players

Simon Grayson believes that anxiety may well be part of the reason as to why his players are not picking up the results which they were doing at the beginning of the season. Huddersfield Town went yet another game without a win in the Championship after failing to get all three points against Birmingham City on Saturday at The John Smiths Stadium. This 1-1 draw has taken the terriers to eleven straight league games without a victory but Grayson remains upbeat about his team.

Grayson Relieved With Home Point

Simon Grayson & Lee Clark before kick-off
Huddersfield Town struck in second half stoppage time to deny the visitors, Birmingham City, all three points at The John Smiths Stadium. The game was not one that any Town fan will want to re-watch in a hurry as the terriers looked terrible throughout the game, especially after going a goal behind just before the interval. Huddersfield struggled both on and off the ball and in all honesty didn't deserve to be blessed with an incredible solo goal from Adam Hammill in the dying stages of the game as the terriers added another valuable point to their tally in the Championship.

Grayson Sums Up Hillsborough Events & Looks Forward To Bloomfield Visit

Huddersfield Town will travel to Bloomfield Road on Monday night to take on Blackpool who are looking like one of the teams to beat in The Championship this year. The Tangerines were once managed by current Town manager Simon Grayson who experienced success at the club by taking them from League One into The Championship, just as he has done with the terriers. However, Grayson was more interested in talking about his teams latest performance against Sheffield Wednesdsay where they impressively picked up all three points;

"The performance on Wednesday night was very good, but ultimately it’s about getting the win and we did that by doing what we had to throughout the course of the game. There were different aspects to the game that I was really pleased with; we started the game well, passing the ball around well and getting two early goals, plus we looked really comfortable – there was a good shape to the team. The team overcame a bit of adversity with Joel getting sent off and we had to be dogged and resolute to withstand a big, strong, powerful opponent with a big crowd behind them. We had to find a way to handle them and we certainly did that."
"It’s nice to get our first away win under our belt because I think we have played well away from home so far. At Cardiff we should have got at least a draw and at Ipswich we missed a penalty with five minutes to go that could have resulted in a victory. It was nice to get the win, especially in a local derby."

Joel was sent off with an immediate red card after his sliding tackle completely missed the ball and sent Antonio crashing to the ground for Wednesday  but although Grayson believes it was the wrong decision, he will not contest the red card;

“I don’t think we will be appealing. We’ve looked at the video and it’s a real grey area; I still don’t believe it’s a red card, but it’s somewhere between that and a yellow! I think we’d be wasting our time though – panels don’t usually change their mind on these unless it’s black and white – and we don’t want to lose him for another game, so we’ll have to accept the punishment.”

Many Town fans will have forgot about Kallum Higginbotham who was set for a big future at the terriers before Clarke was sent packing by chairman Dean Hoyle and the winger/striker has now joined Carlisle United on a loan. Grayson explained why this move has happened;

"It’s very much part of the development of the players – the lads that go out on loan still have a future here. Kallum asked to go out on loan and we agreed that it’s a good opportunity for him, but we’ll keep an eye on him. I’m pleased with how Liam Ridehalgh and Chris Atkinson are doing out on loan at Chesterfield and it’s all to help the development of the individuals in question, as well as the Club. I’m not under any pressure to move any players out on loan though. We have a group here all competing for the jerseys; we have real competition for places and that means we can change systems and personnel when we need to. It’s about getting the right balance of what’s right for the individuals as well as the Club."

Grayson finally give his verdict on how it will feel managing against one of his former clubs and one which he holds close to his heart;

"I’m looking forward to it. I was disappointed I didn’t get the chance to go back last year as I had six good years at Blackpool; three as a player and three as a manager. It was a successful time and it played a big part in my footballing career. To lead Blackpool to promotion at Wembley was great and we then stabilised the team in the Championship, which was no mean feat at the time as we didn’t have a big budget and the facilities were not up there with the other teams. However, the Club has gone from strength to strength and I’d like to think I played some part in that."
"We had a good team ethic when I was there and I think around six to eight players in their Premier League team were my signings – the likes of Wes Hoolahan. There was a unity within the group; we stuck together at the team and there was a special atmosphere at the ground, particularly at night matches. It’s a fantastic football club and it’s on the up. However, it is all about Huddersfield Town for me now. I’ll see a few old friends there, but I want to disappoint them because we’ve come away with a victory!"

Grayson captured Keith Southern in the summer transfer window from Blackpool and the gaffer was keen to talk about the hard working midfielder who he rates very highly;

"I think he’s showed what he can do, but he also influences the younger players – his calmness has rubbed off on the likes of Ollie Norwood, Danny Ward and Adam Clayton. Keith will run through a brick wall for you and that is reflecting in the rest of the players. We have a nice set of ingredients in the middle of the park at this moment in time.  He’s looking forward to Monday night, as is Peter Clarke, who played a big part for Blackpool previously. The only way they will enjoy the game is by winning though.”"

Both Blackpool & Huddersfield Town are sitting nicely in the top half of the league as we write this and both have had great starts to The Championship. Simon Grayson recognizes this and played compliment to the way the Tangerines play their football;

"It will be one of the toughest games of the season. I watched them on Tuesday night against Middlesbrough and they were very good. They could have been four or five up at half time and the same in the second half. They have a way of playing that a lot of teams can’t deal with, there’s a lot of rotation in midfield and attack to a very high standard."
"It’s a good place to go, as Bloomfield Road creates a good atmosphere. It’s a challenge, but our players are looking forward to it. We will have to be on our guard and at the top of our game because Blackpool have turned over some good teams this year; they are at the top of the division and one of the favourites to go up this year. We’ll go there aware of what they can do, but equally I’m sure they are aware of what we can do. We have some good footballers that will cause any team problems. Sometimes I think teams go there and are in awe of them; they try to change their tactics and it doesn’t suit them. Our defence will be tested. We’ll be without Joel Lynch, but Anthony Gerrard will come in and he’s been waiting patiently for his opportunity. For the majority of this season we’ve had a good shape on the pitch and that has limited opportunities for our opposition, but that will certainly be tested on Monday as Blackpool have goals in them."

Grayson will be forced to leave Lynch out of his squad due to suspension as the defender received a straight red for a rash challenge on Antonio when the terriers clashed with Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday. However, Simon is more than happy with his replacement, Anthony Gerrard;

“I like him; he’s wholehearted and he’s a leader. He’s had to wait patiently for his opportunity because the team has been doing so well, but he can come in now and try to grasp his opportunity."

Adam Hammill will also more than likely miss the game against Blackpool due to an injury which kept him out of the team against Sheffield Wednesday and Grayson updated us on his current condition;

"Adam is struggling with his knee; I would say he will be a major doubt for Monday. It’s something he picked up in an innocuous challenge last weekend – I think he just blocked a ball. He’s in the hands of the physios."

Hammill Ready For Business Despite Hillsborough Connections

On loan winger Adam Hammill is ready to give it his all despite having close connections with the disaster which happened at Hillsborough 23 years ago. The disaster has dominated sports news for the last week or so but the new findings have finally brought some sort of justice for the family & friends of the 96 football fans that died on that day.

Hammill gave an emotional interview today about the whole situation ahead of todays Championship clash against Derby County;

"Anthony Gerrard has a relative, the youngest person who died there, so it's tough for him, and those of us who drive in were all talking about it with very mixed emotions. The people of Liverpool knew the truth all along and for it to finally come out, it's 23 years too late really. There have been a lot of cover-ups and we've been labelled with a reputation we didn't deserve or warrant."

"The people who did that should hang their heads in shame. The apologies are too late, but it shows the character of Liverpool to come through this. Whether you support Liverpool or you are Evertonian, everyone has united and stuck together to try and get through it and to get the justice. I had family friends there and people who I know"

"My best friends mum was in the crowd with some of their relatives, but they were among the fortunate ones on the day. The thing none of us expected was the report about how many people could have been saved. Your heart goes out to those people and those families, it really does."

Hammill then moved on to speak about how pleased he was to get his loan move to Huddersfield Town and be reunited with manager Simon Grayson as well as being able to get his first minutes under the belt at Ipswich Town two weeks ago;

"It will be nice to get a full season under my belt in what are familiar surroundings for me. The move for Jermaine Beckford didn't go through for the club on the final night of the transfer window, but I'm glad mine did because I've just got a desire to play football and that's all I want to do. It was great to get a few minutes down at Ipswich, where the instructions were just to play off James Vaughan and run at their defence, and it seemed to work quite well for us."

"I want to get my share of goals and assists and the positive thing about the international break was that I got a couple of games under my belt for the reserves, which felt good. There is real quality on the training pitch, the banter is good and everyone is looking forward to the games coming up. I know this club plays the sort of football which suits me. Our midfielders are proper footballers who like to get on the ball and spread it wide, and we've got quality strikers as well."

Hammill gave his reasons as to why he has settled in so well at Huddersfield Town;

"I came through the ranks at Liverpool with Calum Woods, so we have known each other a long time. Then I played alongside Keith Southern at Blackpool and, within a minute of arriving here, I knew Anthony Gerrard! He is the loudest and the maddest person I have ever come across."

Snodin 'Excited' By Hammill

Glynn Snodin today gave his own opinion on Huddersfield Town's latest newboy Adam Hammill who was brought in by Simon Grayson on loan until January from Wolves. The winger has been having a tough time getting into the starting lineup at Wolves but immediately made an impact for the terriers after coming on off the bench only to feature heavily in Town's second goal against Ipswich last week.

The Huddersfield coach, Snodin, admitted that he is excited by the pacey winger and gave his reasons as to why;

"Adam is quick and direct, loves to take people on and will not only create chances, but he's got the ability to take them as well. He is a really exciting player and Simon knows him well from when they were together at Blackpool. Players change as they go along through life and it's fair to say Adam was just very frustrated at Wolves because he hasn't had an opportunity, so we are hoping that we can give him that chance and he will reward us and the fans with the sort of displays we know he can produce."

"Adam is the sort of exciting, thrilling player who will get supporters off their seats, no doubt about that. And he won't shirk his responsibilities. If it doesn't work out first time, second time or even third, he will keep on going until he creates something good. The great thing is that you can be defending on moment and then, give the ball to Adam and you are in the opposition box in three or four seconds and that's what we are looking for – attacking pace and threat and to get up the pitch as quickly as possible."

Debut Went Down Well For Hammill

Hammill was handed his debut today for Huddersfield Town as the terriers came away from Portman Road with a well deserved point. The Wolves winger arrived on loan late last night until January and that meant he was eligible to play for Huddersfield today. Hammill came off the bench and immediately impressed as he featured heavily in the second equalising goal as well as creating the chance which led to the penalty late on for Huddersfield;

"It was a good debut. I haven't forgotten how fast this League is, but the game still took me a little bit by surprise! I think I showed a little bit of what I can do and hopefully when I play more I show more and get a few goals."

Hammill was one of Grayson's main targets as the transfer deadline came to an abrupt end last night and the winger admitted that game time & knowing Grayson was a massive factor for him coming to The John Smiths Stadium;

"I've left Wolves to play as many games as possible. I've played in this League before and I've done well in it, so hopefully I can eventually establish myself in the side under Simon Grayson."

"I know the Manager well because I've played under him at Blackpool – he knows what to expect from me and me from him, so it's a good match. I'm happy playing anywhere across the midfield, whether it's wide or behind the front man like I did today. To be honest I'll play anywhere the manager wants me!"

Hammill Is 'Delighted To Be Signing Here'

Hammill delighted to join the terriers on loan
Winger Adam Hammill has joined the terrier on loan until January and after a hectic day which saw him driving down the M62 with his missus, Hammill managed to sign just in time to be able to feature for Huddersfield against Ipswich on Saturday. Here is what the loanee had to say about his move from Wolves;

"It has been a little bit frantic! Me and the missus jumped in the car and have flown down the M62.  I’m delighted to be signing here. I want to get as much game time as possible and show everyone what I can do. I just want to play football – that’s all I’ve ever wanted to do. For whatever reason it hasn’t quite worked out for me at Wolves, but I’m looking forward to my future now and working with some familiar faces and getting going."
"I’ve worked with Simon in the past at Blackpool and I know what he expects from me, so that was a big reason to come. I also know a few of the players – Keith Southern and Calum Woods – and everything I’ve heard about the Club tells me it’s a really good place to be. I’ve seen the way the team plays and that has caught my eye too."
Hammill is expected to be in with a chance to start for the terriers against Ipswich especially with Scannell being out due to an injury.

Hammill Joins Huddersfield On Loan

Adam Hammill has tonight signed on loan until January for Huddersfield Town. The winger joins from Wolverhampton Wanderers after emerging as a major target for Grayson just yesterday. Hammill has been placed on the transfer list by his current club but the terriers have only managed to secure his signature until the next transfer window opens in January.

The deal means that Hammill is eligible to play for Huddersfield Town against Ipswich tomorrow & is expected to make his debut for The Yorkshire Club with Scannell possibly being left out due to injury.
